The Akita: Book of the Breed
Gerald and Kath Mitchell
The Akita has held an honoured place in Japanese homes since earliest civilization. Over the centuries, this strong, powerful dog had been used for guarding and hunting, and has always been regarded as a great status symbol. The breed was introduced to Britain in 1981 and since than it has grown enormously in popularity. In 1990, the Akita, a dominant breed renowned for its deeply loyal disposition, was awarded Challenge Certificates for the first time.
