by John F Gordon
Today, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier is an increasingly popular breed as witnessed by the rising number of  registrations at the Kennel Club.   The breed was top Terrier entry at Cruft’s 1983, and looks like maintaining this major position for coming seasons.    The Staffordshire Bull Terrier’s worth as a good utility dog, easy to rear and maintain, as a loyal companion and effective guard, as a trusty ‘nursemaid’ to children, yet tough when the occasion demands, are characteristics which have contributed to his popularity and which his owners accept as a matter of course.
