The Cavalier King Charles Spaniels: The World of Dogs
Margaret Workman
In her book, Margaret Workman gives a detailed account of this breed, from early examples of small dogs kept solely as companions, through the emergence of companion/sporting spaniels at the court of King Charles II, to the revival of the Blenheim Spaniel of the old type in 1925, when the Cavalier began to evolve as a separate breed from the King Charles Spaniel or ‘Charlie’. She then goes on to tell us how it went on to become a popular show dog, and is now the seventh largest breed in terms of registrations. She also gives us the benefit of her considerable experience in topics such as Cavalier health, general care, grooming, showing and breeding. Of special interest to the serious breeder will be the chapter dedicated to genetics and successful breeding and the appendix of colour breeding charts.
Margaret Workman has owned Cavalier King Charles Spaniels for around 25 years and has bred and shown many dogs under her Costara affix.
