Afghan Hounds:  The World of Dogs

Lynda Race

Full-colour photographs with pedigree names

The Afghan Hound exudes glamour and, as we look at the immaculately-groomed show champion, it is difficult to remember that it was originally bred for hunting and loves to chase anything that moves.   In her book, Lynda Race recounts the history of this aristocat among dogs, from the arrival in Afghanistan of its greyhound-type forebears with Syrian caravans en route to Central Asia to the emergence of the well-known breed we admire today, in Great Britain and throughout the world.   She also tells us how to choose, care for and show an Afghan and, for the experienced and knowledgeable enthusiast, gives advice on how to breed Afghan Hounds.  A whole chapter is devoted to the care of that luxuriant coat and there are also sections about lure coursing and racing.

Lynda has bred Afghan Hounds for more than 25 years, producing many champions under her Kaskarak affix, including Ch. Montravia Kaskarak Hitari, the first Afghan to ever win Best in Show at Crufts (1983).
